What Does It Mean to Be Part of a Wellbeing Ecosystem?

By Shambhu Cafe7 min read

From the café to the resort, spa, food, cacao products and community tourism — explore the six connected parts of the CMWSE ecosystem.

Shambhu Cafe is not a standalone café. It is part of a connected wellbeing ecosystem in Chiang Mai — a network of organisations, places and experiences that share a common purpose: to support wellbeing, hospitality and responsible tourism.

This ecosystem is coordinated through the Chiang Mai Wellbeing Social Enterprise (CMWSE).

The Six Connected Parts

1. Chiang Mai Wellbeing Social Enterprise

The social enterprise that connects and supports the ecosystem. CMWSE brings together wellbeing, hospitality, communities and responsible tourism initiatives across Chiang Mai.

2. Insda Wellness Resort

A nature-based wellness resort in Ban Pong, Hang Dong — and the home of Shambhu Cafe. Insda offers accommodation, a saltwater infinity pool, herbal steam and other wellbeing experiences in a mountain setting.

3. Origan Spa

A wellness spa at Insda Wellness Resort, inspired by traditional and contemporary approaches to relaxation and wellbeing. Origan Spa extends the wellbeing journey beyond food and drink.

4. X On Earth

A food experience within the CMWSE ecosystem, offering vegetarian, vegan and culturally inspired cuisine. X On Earth reflects the ecosystem's commitment to thoughtful, mindful food.

5. CaLush Shop

A cacao, beverage and lifestyle shop that extends the Shambhu experience beyond the café. Through CaLush, guests can take selected cacao products, tea and lifestyle goods home — continuing the experience beyond a single visit.

6. Wellness Hills 1269+

A wellbeing and community tourism network connecting nature, wellness, culture and local experiences along the Chiang Mai mountain corridor — the 1269 route where Shambhu Cafe is located.

Why an Ecosystem?

For us, hospitality and wellbeing should create value beyond a single transaction. An ecosystem allows experiences to connect naturally — a café visit can lead to a pool swim, a spa treatment, a cacao product to take home, or a community journey through the mountains.

Together, these connected experiences allow guests to move naturally between café, accommodation, spa, food, cacao products, local journeys and wellbeing experiences.

Each Brand Is Distinct

While the six parts are connected, each remains a distinct entity with its own identity, team and purpose. The ecosystem is not a single business — it is a network of related organisations sharing a common approach to wellbeing and hospitality.

Being part of a wellbeing ecosystem means that when you visit Shambhu Cafe, you are not just visiting a café. You are entering a wider world of connected experiences — and you are welcome to explore as much or as little as you wish.
