Three Traditions, Three Perspectives

Three Traditions, Three Perspectives

By Shambhu Cafe7 min read

Thai Traditional, Ayurveda, and Traditional Chinese Medicine — three distinct wellness traditions that inspire the Shambhu Beverage Compass.

The Shambhu Wellness Beverage Compass™ draws inspiration from three rich wellness traditions. Each tradition offers a distinct perspective on how food, drink and daily habits relate to wellbeing.

Thai Traditional Perspectives

Thai traditional wellness has long valued the relationship between the body, the elements and the seasons. Herbal drinks, warm infusions and aromatic spices play a central role. The Thai approach often emphasises balance — using warming or cooling ingredients to respond to how the body feels in a given moment.

Ayurveda

Ayurveda, originating in India, describes three primary constitutional types — Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Each type is associated with different qualities and tendencies. Ayurveda suggests that food and drink can be chosen to support balance for each individual. Spices such as cardamom, cinnamon and clove — the same spices found in masala chai — have been used in Ayurvedic traditions for centuries.

Traditional Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) views the body through the lens of Qi (vital energy), Yin and Yang, and the Five Elements. TCM associates different foods and drinks with warming, cooling, or neutral qualities. The timing of consumption — and the season — also matters.

Three Separate Perspectives

It is important to understand that these three traditions are separate perspectives. They share a common interest in the relationship between food, drink and wellbeing, but they do not map onto each other one-to-one. Each tradition has its own framework, vocabulary and approach.

The Shambhu Beverage Compass does not diagnose or treat. It does not claim that any one tradition is more correct than another. Instead, it draws gentle inspiration from all three — alongside your current mood, the time of day, and your personal preferences — to suggest drinks from our real menu that may suit your moment.

A Hospitality Experience, Not a Medical One

The Compass is a hospitality experience. It is designed to encourage curiosity and more thoughtful choices. It is not medical diagnosis, medical advice, or a substitute for professional care.

Three traditions. One moment. Your drink.
